Celebrating Fatherhood and Mental Health in June
In anticipation of International Father’s Mental Health Day (IFMHD) on June 21st, we will be celebrating fatherhood and mental health throughout the month. Founded by paternal postpartum depression survivor Mark Williams and fatherhood mental health expert and PSI board member Dr. Daniel Singley, IFMHD involves taking the day after Father’s Day to launch a focused social media campaign which highlights key aspects of fathers’ mental health.
In celebration of International Father’s Mental Health Day, we have worked with parents and community members to curate resources that support fathers’ wellness and self-care practices. Check them out here:
Self-Care for Fathers
This blog, written by John Holberg and George Davis V, offers tips and tricks on how fathers and male caregivers can grow and support their mental health through wellness and self-care practices.
Family Forward Resource Center – The Fatherhood Initiative
Scroll down on the Adult Education page to learn more about the Fatherhood Initiative Program. FFRC helps fathers identify and overcome barriers to maintaining positive and active roles in their children’s lives. The Today’s Fathers Program teaches men to be better fathers through fatherhood training classes.
Circle of Parents – Fathers and Male Caregivers
We know that fathers are often left out of the conversation when it comes to parenting advice, so we wanted to create a space for fathers to share with each other all the ups and downs of parenting. Join other fathers and male caregivers all around Colorado to share support, tips and advice or just talk.
From the Heart Enterprises
From the Heart Enterprises is committed to the creation of a community of Black men who help one another through mentoring, business support, educational training, mental health care and network building. Their focus is to bring unity in Black men through providing workshops, retreats, service acts, youth programs, mental health aid and guidance.
Project Proud Fatherhood
In Partnership with the Struggle of Love Foundation and other community partners, Project Proud Fatherhood offers relationship education, systems navigation, systems consultation in regards to equitable policy and practices, youth programming, early literacy programming, and other services in order to integrate fatherhood into their programs and services. Contact Troy Grimes at firstname.lastname@example.org or troy@struggleoflovefoundation to learn more or get involved.
Postpartum Dads helps dads and families by providing firsthand information and guidance through the experience of postpartum depression from the dad’s perspective.
No One, in Fact, Is Better Than Ezra
This blog, featured on Illuminate Colorado, shares Ezra’s journey with Impostor Syndrome as a father working through a divorce, going back to school to pursue a career change, and dealing with health issues during the pandemic. Ezra shares how the group Circle of Fathers gave him the space, support, and encouragement he needed.
Celebrating Fathers of Freedom
Celebrating Fathers of Freedom, a blog featured on Illuminate Colorado, shares the stories of Adam Combs and Adrian Nunez. These two military veteran fathers recognized a void in their community for fathers attempting to figure out how to jump back into parenthood while working to overcome other struggles that often accompany serving abroad.
We are excited to support International Father’s Mental Health Day and hope you will explore, use, and share these resources! If you are interested in learning more about or getting involved with IFMHD, please visit Postpartum Support International’s webpage.
